Progress is being made

This is the last step to the Devine Medallion. According to my notes, I started this project on Good Friday, April 10. 2009.

Now, once I finish these last few pieces, it will look like this. I am really excited to complete my assigned portion of this project.Gerri Smith has done some beautiful embroidery on this piece that really helps to tie everything together. Linda has planned a "sew-in" on Nov.21 to put the blocks together. We are shooting for the Spring QSC meeting at the Newberry Opra House for this quilt to be seen for the first time.

WEEKEND OF FUN !!!!

I spent my weekend with over 250 of my quilting sisters. We were attending Quilters of South Carolina's Pieceable Retreat. This happens every October and it is a fantastic experience.

This was the class that I took. Galaxy Stars is a pattern taught by Anita Bowen. We had a great group and it made for a wonderful weekend.

Those of us that participated in the 'Artful Bra' project also received a surprise. OUR BOOK WAS PRESENTED TO US !!!!!!!!

I am Woman !!!

The challenge this year for the Quilters of South Carolina is called Give Me Your Heart. This challenge is to bring awareness to Women's heart health. Heart Disease is number one when it comes to killing women. This is my entry:
























I found most of the image on the internet and then added some lines and images of my own. I am really pleased with the piece and my husband has named it "I AM WOMAN". Sounds like a song don't cha think?
I also finished quilting a piece for Tori this weekend. I don't have the binding seewn down yet, but a few hours in front of the TV and that will be done.























All this means, that I have finished my 2 challenge pieces--One for the Devine Guild (Sunflowers) and the One for QSC--still needs label and sleeve (no problem). I have also quilted
my second quilt on the longarm (still not named). Now, next weekend I can get back to the applique on the Devine Guild quilt. I need to add a few pieces of applique before I can pass it back to Linda. She is ready to begin the piecing of the center section of the quilt.

Just Stitchin' Fall Quilt Camp is just a few weeks away so that is also coming up on my to do list.

I have tried posting this 3 times and each time blogger posts it differently. Hope it looks OK this time.

My Weekend

I have not made much progress this weekend. Sherry and I have been working on the mystery quilt for Spring Quilt Camp, which is fast approaching. I spent 2 days stressing over which fabrics to use. I would pull some out, take a picture, look at it, put the fabrics back. It has given me the chance to pull all of my blue, yellow, and orange fabrics off of the shelf and fondle them. I really did not realize how much they had missed that. I found some fabrics that I haven't seen in probably 3 or 4 years!! We really need to do that at least once a year. Take them off of the shelf, refold them and put them back. It makes your fabric feel loved and appreciated. (I know, you think that I have a screw loose!!) Just give it a try and you will really feel the love too.

We received a email from the curator of the "Artful Bra" exhibit. She had heard from a lady in New York who is going to try to get something going in that area for a auction of their own art bras, during a golf tournament. It is really amazing how the "word" has gotten our about this exhibit. I certainly hope that many of you are in an area at the same time that the exhibit is and can get a good look at the Bras. They are awesome. For those of you that missed that post this is a picture of mine:

As the Bras travel they have their own special cover bags and their own hangers. They travel in special boxes with special instructions. If you are in South Carolina and would like to exhibit the "Artful Bras" you can find all of the information on the Quilters Of South Carolina website. I know that they will be at Greenhill Baptist Church , in West Columbia, SC , Tuesday of this week from 12:00 to 5:00. You can call Greenhill for information.

Time Out

I have to admit to not working on my Baby Jane this weekend. The State Fair is going on and of course we had to go. I had 3 pieces entered and did manage to blue ribbons on two of them.

The Tulip is one that we exhibited during the library exhibit because it's background is done in the log cabin style.

The red, white, and black is a miniature that I did for our guild challenge last year. I was really disappointed in how it was displayed. It was in a case that showed lots of Carolina and Clemson pieces. Anyone who knows me, knows that I AM NOT A GAMECOCK, no matter how badly Clemson in playing.

All Piper wanted to ride was the Merry Go Round. She did not want anything to do with the Horses, just to sit on the bench and ride. She had a fantastic time and rode 2 times with her Mom and 2 times with her Uncle Jay.

This has to be the best trip to the fair since my children were young. Of course we couldn't enjoy it as much then because they were our children.

This is where I spent my Saturday, at the Quilted Pearl. I was taking a class with Lynn Buske on her miniature 4-patch swirl. You know I can't resist something that says miniature.

I do hope everyone has a good week. I will be getting everything together to attend Quilters of South Carolina Fall Retreat. I am looking forward to the whole experience. That said, I will be 4-5 blocks behind on my Baby Jane when I return and will then spend the next week catching up. See you later,

Hooray It's Done!!!!

I can't believe it. Anina assigned this block, A-5 which is called Cathie's Campfire, and I had already done it at some other time.

So, hooray it's done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now to try to finish getting ready for QSC's Fall retreat. I have my blocks cut and all of the blocks together, except for the star blocks. I am taking a class to make a quilt called "How Far Is It to Bethlehem?" from the book Adoration Quilts by Rachel W. N. Brown. So all I have to do now is get the rest of the fabric together for the applique.

I'm also taking a class this weekend on a 4patch swirl, but in miniature. This quilt is similar to the Stack and Whack, except it is a four patch and this one is in miniature. Can't wait to start this one.

Reporting In-This is a Long One

The only thing that I am up to date with is Baby Jane. The Green and Peach block is J-4 Adalaine's Apron Strings completed months ago. The red and pink block is L-3 Reflections Abound. The Green and white block is H-8 Eaton's Cross Roads. I only have to complete this weeks triangle and I will do that tomorrow.

I am so far behind on Christmas, that I may never catch up. I have to complete the quilting on the quilt for Alexis, Piece and quilt the one for Piper, and figure out what to do for Austin and get it done.

The picture of my design wall will give you some idea as to the mess that I have in the studio at this time.

1. The star quilt that I started in a class last week.

2. The House and Vase of flowers for one of the applique quilts that I am working on.

3. My red, black, and white miniature--that I just love to look at.

4. You can see one sleeve of the jacket from the class last month.

5. Look closely and you will see a few rows of a miniature tumbler that I have started

6. There is a possible border for the Just Stitchin' mystery from last February

7. Two blue and white miniature star blocks--what for? who knows!

8. On the table you can see the art bra's that I am working on for QSC challenge

9. There is a portrait block of Piper that I did a year and a half ago that I hope to do something with very soon.

Fall Festival

Ok, this is my art bra for the Quilters of South Carolina Challenge. I needed to get at least one done for a golf tournament the first part of September. The President of QSC, Sandra Baker, has issued this challenge to all members of our state guild. The art pieces are to be shown at our annual Fall retreat in October. This should be one amazing group. I can't wait to see all of them together. I hope to get one more done before October. The plan is for this to become a traveling exhibit and I sure hope that it works out that way.

WOW !! WHAT A SHOW !!!

I spent last Saturday attending the annual quilt show sponsored by the Ashville Quilt Guild (don't you love their new logo) at the Arboretum in Ashville. A beautiful venue for a quilt show. This guild conducts one of the best shows of its kind in the area. We have a lot of wonderful, well organized quilt shows in North and South Carolina, but I do consider this one of the best. The quilts were beautiful and the Vendors took a lot of my money. I have spent the past few hours up loading the pictures from the show to my Flicker account .



This weekend has been spent with the family. We had the children and all of the grandchildren over for supper last night. It was good.



The Greater Columbia Nite Bee sponsored a viewing of quilts at the Lexington County Museum yesterday. They have an enormous quilt collection and no money to maintain it. It was sad to see 50 quilts stacked on a bed in a room that may or may not have heating and air conditioning on any given day. The number of quilts that they have are 200-300 (I think) was mentioned. This is just becoming an area of awareness to the guilds in the area, so hopefully we can do something about this.


If you look to the left of the quilt that is being shown in this picture, you will see the back of the quilt that was 'stacked' on top of it. The backing of that quilt has completely disintergrated and what you are seeing is the batting.

Here are 3 of the pictures that I took yesterday. I have not had time to go through them yet and I had to take them at odd angles. I will edit them over the next few weeks and you can see some of the quilts from the Lexington County Museum .







While I was uploading photos today, I was working on my "Art Bra" for Quilters of South Carolina. It is not quite ready yet, but when it is you will be assured that a picture will be posted.
