Getting Ready for VACATION !!!

As you can see, Jake is really helping me out a lot!!! In the bag are the Dear Jane Blocks that I hope to work on while at the Beach. I think that I have close to 25 of them ready to work with. I am sorry to say, that I am that far behind.

I intentionally left out the triangles for the top row of the quilt as they are to complicated to work without Anina's directions. I will really have to work hard to complete what is in the box.

Just so I don't go into applique' withdrawal I am also preping another block to my "Cottage Garden" quilt. This will be block #5 out of 9 for this piece. This block is called "Pleasures of Summer". Lots of stems and lots of small flowers. Heart shaped leaves. Lots and Lots of stuff. We will just have to see how this goes. I probably should take my current Baltimore Block, but, I am currently sick of working on grape leaves!!!

Piper finished with Vacation Bible School on Friday. She had a wonderful week. There must have been at least 100 children for VBS at the church. They had an amazing number of volunteers to help with these children. Piper has been very fortunate to be in a position to participate in preschool, kindergarten, and all the summer programs.
I am not sure when we will leave for the beach. There are so many of us going that we will have to have 'round robin' sleeping arrangements. While some of us are at the beach, some will stay home to take care of animals and watch property. Then after a few days we will switch off so that everyone can be there at least for a while.
The "Artful Bra" exhibit is currently being shown at:
Quilters Cottage

If you are in the area, stop and see Pat and Rhett. This is a wonderful shop with very, very "Happy Fabric" and a very sociable staff to help you.
So, if you don't hear from me for a few weeks, never fear, I'll be back. So in the eloquent words of the President of Devine Quilters: "GO SEW SOMETHING!!"

Happy Father's Day!!!

This was where we left off last weekend. I was working on the mystery for the Devine Guild. Well, on Friday I did put all of the blocks together. I can't show you what it looks like since the mystery won't be solved until the first Monday in July. Trust me, it is VERY bright. I also decided that I did not like the border fabrics that I had picked out, so I will have to do some shopping for some other fabric---what a bother!!!

Saturday was spent working on some things with Tori and Piper. Saturday night I decided
to work on a 'One Block Wonder' that was started a few weeks ago. The fabric is black, white, red, and gray. There are touches of deep magenta in som of the blocks also. Not much other color. This first picture is of the hexagons that I completed on Saturday night.
Today I spent working on the Center of the Devine Guild quilt. Of course, I can't show it to you, but you can see behind curtain #1 what I have done or have pinned and ready to be stitched down.
I also put together more of the hexagons.

This is where we are as of 9:30 PM on Sunday night. I really feel as though I did alot for one weekend.

I can't believe how many hexagons that I have at this point and I have sooooooo many more to stitch together. I think this is one of those tops that will require some cubes inserted for interest. I guess that I will have to pull out the other book on 'One Blocks' so that I can work those into this quilt.
Have a great week. It will really be a hot and humid one for this area.

Devine '09 Mystery

Step One was cutting instructions. DONE

Step Two---Done
This also lets you see the chosen fabrics. These are the only fabrics in this project.

Now, on to Step 3. Will post that when done.

Step Three ---Done

Now, on to Step 4 !!!!
Anita ! are you watching ??????
Step Four ---Done
As I look at how this is working up I see that there really isn't enough contrast between the light and medium, especially in the orange. I'm going with it anyway.

Now I only have step 5 to work with. Step 6 will not ve revealed until our July meeting. I'm going to cook supper. Would like to finish up step 5 tonight. Maybe. Maybe not. I have really done a lot today. With the Library top and this. Great Day!!!

Step Five

Step Six????

Progress

The top for the Library Quilt is finally completed. You may remember that when I started this that I wanted a 2 color project with just the blue. As you can see, that plan did not work for me after a while. There was a point that I added just one red star and all of you encouraged me to add more, so I did. Anyway, this is what I have ended up with. The top is made of 2" finished blocks, so I have done a lot of paper piecing!! Now comes the process of removing the paper. This will be done while watching TV. I am thinking that the binding will be the same color as the background. Maybe, maybe not. The walls of the Library gallery are much the same color as the background of this top. So, what I am thinking is that if I bind in the cream that it will appear that the stars and other blocks are just floating on the wall. I am really 'stumped' as to how to quilt this. What do you think?Let me know what you think about the binding and the quilting.

We have had a very important occasion in the family. Piper graduated from Pre-school. She has been in a wonderful program at one of the local churches. She has learned so much and she is now ready to go on to Kindergarten at one of the public schools. She has been enrolled in Kindergarten and is excited about starting in August.

You can tell the Mommie and daughter are very happy and proud of the day. You are lookin' good girls!!!

Last night my family gave me ANOTHER birthday party at Dusty's and Sherry's house. Pat and Danny along with Kristy and Tori contributed and we all had a wonderful evening. Pam called from the lake, sure missed her. Clay is in California so missed him too. I am not so sure I am ready to call this birthday complete so I think that we will continue the family gatherings all summer and especially when we head to the beach in a few weeks.

Now, back to the Devine Applique. I think that I will also start cutting the Devine mystery quilt top. I finally got the fabric and I think this one is telling me that it should go to Alexis for Christmas--not sure yet--but maybe.

Have a great week. Summer has really arrived here in South Carolina with really hot, humid days with afternoon thunder storms. Really reminds me of summers years ago.

June 13

Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to Joyce! Happy Birthday to me!

I have had a full week of Birthday courtesy of my family. It has been wonderful. I think that I am going to extend my birthday until the end of June.

Dick, Tori and I went to dinner last night at MoMo's Bistro. The food was fantastic. The service was impecible. I look forward to visiting there again.

I spent today in the studio working on the 'Library' Quilt. Should have the top together tomorrow. Will post picture later this weekend.
